James Roden VIEW PROFILE

Jake Roden

September 18, 1938 ~ April 14, 2023 (age 84)

Obituary

James “Jake” Roden, 84, went to be with his heavenly home on Friday, April 14, 2023.

As per Jake’s request there will be no service.

He was born in Nelson, Oklahoma to Ed and Ora Roden.  His family moved to Borger in 1945 where he lived until his death.  Jake made a career as a long-haul truck driver and was proud of his accomplishments as a Mason.  Jake is survived by his daughter, Lisa Roden; stepsons, Johnny Cook, Mike Cook, Jeff Cook; stepdaughter, Debbie Sterling; twelve grandchildren; and twenty-four great grandchildren.

Jake shared a special bond with Jeremiah Roden, Cherrie Turner, Jeremy Cook and wife Christine, Nathal Wolle, Miranda Okuda, Quisha Arizmendi and husband Michael, James Roden, Tayla Gonzales, and his many nieces and nephews past and present.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Ora Roden; wife, Sally Roden; sisters, Ola Wilborn, Geneva Roden, Ileta Francis; and stepson, Steve Cook.

Jake was an amazing storyteller and between his adventures, family, and trucking career there was never a shortage of stories.  He also enjoyed entertaining his family and friends by playing the guitar and singing, mainly tunes from his favorites, Hank Williams, Sr, Johnny Cash, and Merle Haggard.  Jake never met a stranger and was always willing to lend a helping hand.  You either loved him or not, and most did love him.  He would always quote Hank Sr. by saying “I’m not going to worry wrinkles in my brow ‘cause nothin’s never gonna be alright nohow” and would tell you “Pick yourself up by your bootstraps and take the lead row.”

Remembering Jake takes me back to Weatherly. Our 7th grade basketball, football  teams were undefeated. Jake Roden was one of our star players. Catching passes and running after the catch,he was the best.Defensive he was tough hard to block and a sure tackler. Thinking of you Jake and our friendship. Take care and God Bless.
