Lufkin Daily News
November 10, 2006

Jean Bullock Joiner, 67, of Lufkin, was born October 14, 1939 in Arkansas. Her birth mother died when she was small. She was adopted by Dean and Lucille Bullock of Nacogdoches, Texas, when she was six years of age. She passed away Wednesday, November 8, 2006, in Lufkin. She is survivied by two daughters, Cheryl Ann Miller of Lufkin and Jana Lynn Compton and husband Tommy of Hunt; parents, Dean and Lucille (Dover) Bullock of Lufkin; three grandchildren, Victor Dean Machado, Sara Jean Lazarine and Katie Jean Davis; brothers, William (Bill) McCormack of McKinney and Marvin Goddard of Oregon; and a number of other relatives. Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Joiner, in October, 2003. Jean graduated from Sinton High School and attended Del Mar College, Corpus Christi and Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches. Most importantly, she was a faithful Christian and a member of the Herty Church of Christ. She was a loving mother and grandmother, a devoted daughter, an esteemed relative, a true friend. And she was possessed of "a quiet and meek spirit which in the sight of God is of great price." She was a loving, caring, sharing person. The first day that she went to school, her mother fixed her a lunch. She came home real hungry. Lucille asked if she ate her lunch. She said, "No, a little boy asked for it and I gave it to him. I was taught to share." She never outgrew that. The family is deeply thankful for the love shown by a great multitude of friends across this great land of ours, for prayers, calls, cards, letters and the many expressions of sympathy. The family is likewise grateful for Memorial Health System of East Texas and Saint Luke's Hospital (Houston), and for all of Jean's doctors, nurses, care persons, for all that was done for her. The family will forever feel indebted to Hospice in the Pines. Their service is unique. If anyone desires to make a donation in memory of Jean, the family will be pleased if you will make it to Hospice in the Pines, 116 S. Raguet, Lufkin, Texas 75904.
