Kenneth Satterfield

Kenneth James Satterfield

January 2, 1939-January 24, 2021

Kenneth James Satterfield of Caddo Oklahoma passed away in his home January 24, 2021 at the age of 82. He was born In Gladewater, Texas to Bert Allen Satterfield and Opal Mae Manus on January 2, 1939. Ken was the second born of five brothers. Ken was a self made man and a very hard worker. He worked most of his life at the Van Gas Propane company, starting out as a yard worker, stripping tanks, repainting them, to filling and installing systems in homes and cars when propane driven cars was a new concept. It was during this time that Ken had met and married his first wife Connie Brasher of Orange County, California, and they had a daughter Cheryl Rene. Ken was determined to provide for his family and proved that with his work ethic. So impressed with his skills and knowledge, his supervisors promoted him all the way up to Regional Manager where he finished out his career. Van Gas was sold to Suburban Propane and it was there that Ken won numerous awards for “Salesman of the Year,” “Most Productive Branch,” and “Branch of the Year.” In addition to being a hard worker; Ken was very ambitious and creative. He loved to garden and always had a bountiful harvest which he would share with family and friends. He could fix and build anything; if he didn’t know how he would reverse engineer the project making it better than it was before. His kids affectionately called him MacGyver for his ability to fix anything. Ken was also a big joker and no one young or old was safe from his pranks. Each and every family member and friend have story after story of a prank they had fell victim to. It’s also important to note that Ken’s children and grandchildren all have inherited a bit of the prankster and his hard work ethic. Ken took a small hiatus from his job at Van Gas and moved his family back to Texas. It was there that he married his second wife Myrna Watson of Pocatello, Idaho, and they had a son Gregory. At that time he also inherited three step daughters, Terry, Sheri, and Debbie. He wanted to return to the south and get his family out of southern California. It was there that he reconnected with his brothers and spent some time in a startup painting business. He worked with his brothers for two years, but the cost of raising a family and insurance was too great and he moved the family back up to southern Oregon and then to Yreka, CA. He finished out his career with Suburban Propane in Washington State. After retirement his second wife Myrna became very ill, and he unselfishly became her sole caregiver. Sadly in 2009 he lost her and moved back to Oklahoma to be nearer his roots, and family. It was at this time that he met his current wife Wanda Ridgeway.  They made a life together and she renewed his broken heart, they spent nights dancing and meeting with friends. Wanda was able to convince him to go back to church, something all of the prayers from family could never do. He became a member of the Voca Baptist Church in Caddo.

He is preceded in death by his parents Bert and Opal Satterfield, brothers Donald, Carlos, William (Bill) his first wife Connie and his second wife Myrna.

He is survived by his Wife Wanda Satterfield of Caddo, OK, his brother Steven of Durant, OK, his daughter Cheryl Satterfield Herdman, son Greg Satterfield, and step daughters Terry Clark, Sheri Smith, and Debbie Sainati, Thirteen Grandkids and twenty three Great Grandchildren.
