Amada Vidaurri, 84, was called home to be with God and her loved ones in heaven on October 22, 2024.

Preceded in death by her parents, Fernando and Brigida, and her eldest brother, Fernando Jr, she is survived by brothers, Valdo and Edward, and sisters-in-law, Mandy, Juanita, and Linda. She is also survived by many nephews, nieces, great-nieces, and great-nephews to whom she was a dearly beloved Tia. 

Amada was born in San Ygnacio, Texas but spent most of her life in as a proud panhandle resident. She attended BunaVista elementary school and Borger High School, graduating in 1958. After earning her associate degrees from Frank Phillips Jr College, she earned her Bachelor of Science from University of Texas Austin and furthered her education with a Master’s Degree in Library Sciences from UNT Denton. 

She began her teaching career in 1963 in Sanford-Fritch where she taught German, Spanish, and also served as librarian for all of the district’s schools. In 1967, Amada became the head librarian at Tascosa High School in Amarillo from where she retired after 36 years of service. After her official retirement, she also served as a reference librarian for West Texas A&M. 

A modern day Renaissance woman, Amada loved to travel and read and was an accomplished painter, talented quilter, and skilled baker. She had a special talent for connecting with people and making friends wherever she went. She was deeply cherished and will be forever missed by all who knew her.

A visitation for Amada will begin at 9:00am with a funeral service to follow at 10:00am on Saturday, October 26, 2024, at Sparkman/Hillcrest Funeral Home, 7405 West Northwest Highway, Dallas, TX 75225. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to your local public library.
